Frequently asked questions
1How is position size calculated?
From your balance, the percentage of it you are willing to risk, and the stop distance in pips. You risk a fixed percentage and the lot size is sized to respect it.
2Why is it the core of risk management?
Because it sets how much you lose if the stop is hit. A size matched to your risk keeps a single trade from denting your account.
3What risk per trade is reasonable?
Many traders use between 0.5% and 2% of the balance per trade. The lower the percentage, the more losing trades in a row you can weather without denting the account. It is a personal choice, not a recommendation.
4Do I need live prices to calculate it?
Yes for pairs whose quote currency is not the dollar: we convert the pip value to USD using live reference quotes. For USD-quoted pairs the pip value is fixed.
5Does it work for gold and silver (XAU/XAG)?
Yes, as long as the metals price feed is live. We use the common MT5 conventions (gold: 100 oz/lot; silver: 5000 oz/lot), which may vary by broker.
